Grading Policy: Students final grade will be determined from four in class tests, one cumulative final exam, student projects, and homework assignments. Your final grade will be determined as follows.
4 one hour exams ----------------------------------------- 60%
Daily Grade (Homework and other assignments) ---- 20%
Final Exam ------------------------------------------------- 20%
* Daily Grade will be determined from student projects, Homework, and any computer assignments that will be taken up during the semester.
Grading Scale
90% - 100% A
80% - 89% B
70%- 79% C
60% - 69% D
0% - 59% F
Attendance policy:
Class attendance is expected and strongly recommended. Attendance will be
taken every class meeting by passing an attendance sheet around for students to
sign. Keep in mind that your performance on tests could be affected by poor
class attendance. Make up exams and quizzes will be given only with the
instructor’s permission.
Notebook
All students will be required to keep a notebook during the semester. In this notebook, students will be required to keep all assigned homework and activities.
Calculators:
Students will need a scientific calculator to complete some assignments and tests. Students will be able to use a scientific calculator on the final exam.
Course Objective:
Topics covered include logic, argument fallacy; scale and magnitude; spherical geometry: statistical reasoning: mathematical modeling for growth and decay, finance and forecasting: game theory and voting systems: principles of computation.
Final Exam
All sections of math 114 will take a common final exam that will be made by the math department. All sections of math 114 will take the final exam at the same time and date. The location, time and date of the final exam will be announced at a later time.
