Grading Policy:  Students final grade will be determined from five in class tests, one cumulative final exam, student projects, and homework assignments.  Your final grade will be determined as follows.

 

 5 In class tests (70 points each)   ------------  350 points

 Final Exam (150 points) --------------------   150 points

*Daily Grade   ------------------------------   150 points

  Total Points  -------------------------------   650 points

 

* Daily Grade will be determined from student projects, Homework, and any computer assignments that will be taken up during the semester.

 

Grading Scale

 

90% - 100% A

80% - 89%   B

70%- 79%    C

60% - 69%   D

0% - 59%     F

 

Attendance policy:    Class attendance is expected and strongly recommended.   Attendance will be taken every class meeting by passing an attendance sheet around for students to sign.  Keep in mind that your performance on tests could be affected by poor class attendance.  Make up exams and quizzes will be given only with the
instructor’s permission.

 

Core Math Exam

 

All students in math 114 are required to take the Radford University Core Math Exam.  In order to receive credit in math 114 students must pass the Core Math Exam by the end of the semester.  This exam will be administered on line in a Radford computer lab with proper security.  The location of the computer lab will be announced later in the semester.

 

 

Calculators

 

Students will need a scientific calculator to complete some assignments and quizzes.  Students will be able to use a scientific calculator on the final exam, but not on the Core Math Exam  

 

Final Exam

All sections of math 114 will take a common final exam that will be made by the math department.  All sections of math 114 will take the final exam at the same time and date.  The location, time and date of the final exam will be announced at a later time.

Course Objective

Topics covered include logic, argument fallacy; scale and magnitude; spherical geometry: statistical reasoning: mathematical modeling for growth and decay, finance and forecasting: game theory and voting systems: principles of computation.
