VAACE Awards' Committee Proposal for 2008 Conference Awards

Present 5 awards:

  1. OUTSTANDING ADULT EDUCATION LEADERSHIP AWARD

    This award seeks to recognize outstanding and extraordinary contributions in the field of adult and continuing education within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The criteria for selection may include: outstanding contributions in the areas of administration, research, publications, teaching, and service to the community, educational institutions or any combination of the above. This award is given for superior contributions, which promote the field of adult and continuing education. Activities may occur within the practice of adult and continuing education or they may occur within the broader area of public service, which has supported adult and continuing education. Nominees must be a member of VAACE.
  2. JOAN E.D. KUSHNIR TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

    The VAACE organization wants to recognize continuing professional growth by teachers employed full-time or part-time in an adult and continuing education program within the Commonwealth of Virginia. This award seeks to recognize exemplary professional practice and service to adult learners. The criteria for selection may include: outstanding contributions in the areas of teaching, curriculum development, innovative methodology and commitment to professional growth and development. Individuals nominated for the award must be a member of VAACE. Please contact the membership chair to inquire about membership. There is no stipulation for number of hours taught weekly to receive this award.
  3. OUTSTANDING WORKPLACE EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP AWARD

    The purpose of this award is to recognize an employer’s commitment to the educational advancement of its employees within a collaborative relationship with a public adult and/or continuing education agency. The criteria for selection will include: outstanding contributions made within the Commonwealth by a public or private employer and educational activities provided for its employees though programs organized in partnership with a public adult and continuing education agency. Nominees do not need to be members of VAACE.
  4. VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD

    VAACE wishes to recognize an individual who has made a special contribution to an adult education program through volunteer service. Criteria for this award include: impact on the program and the learners, understanding of the adult learner, length of volunteer service, innovative ideas, and leadership activities. Nominees do not need to be members of VAACE.
  5. SUPPORT STAFF AWARD

    This award is intended for that person within your adult education organization whose work has been essential to the success of the program. This award is presented as a way to recognize an individual’s hard work, dedication and commitment to an effective framework of adult education. Nominees do not need to be members of VAACE.

All application materials must be on file with the Awards Committee by the close of business on Friday, August 15, 2008.
Postmarks will not be accepted.
