Dr. Bill Kennan is Professor of Communication and has taught at RU for 20 years. His research interests center on social capital formation in organizations and consulting interests include change management, leadership, conflict management, and personal communication skill development. At the undergraduate level he teaches Organizational Communication, Research Methods, and Public Speaking. At the graduate level Dr. Kennan teaches Research Methods and Communication Change and Innovation.

Each year Dr. Kennan teaches a study abroad program that focuses on Southeast Asia. In May-June 2006 he and 14 students visited Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. While there he and his students learned about the culture, politics, food, history, and communication environment of this diverse and rapidly developing region. He plans another trip for May-June 2007.

Dr. Kennan lives in Christiansburg, Virginia in a 100 year old house with his wife Betty, twin daughters, a son, and three minature dachshunds. His 20 year old son Caleb is at Fort Dix, New Jersey preparing for a year in Kuwait as a part of the Army Reserves. Oldest son Jeff is an avionics specialist for the Federal government and next oldest (Matt) is a band director in Magnolia, Arkansas.
