Antebellum Era

Freedom had been won, and the colonies were now the United States of America. Opportunity was greater now than ever. As an independent nation, the United States had to prove itself economically to the rest of the world. That world was changing, and America was no different. While agriculture was still a booming business, Industry was becoming the rite of passage. The new country quickly found itself split. the agricultural Souith still depended on the labor of slaves. The industrial North, after outlawing slavery, found itself growing and becoming richer. The question was rising, will the rest of the world take seriously a country that still allowed the "peculiar institution"? Tempers began to flair and the nation moved towards war. Yet, at the center of it all were a group of people, lost as to their place in the prosperity.
