Schedule w/ Lesson Topics

 

Week 1:

Monday- Show the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas to get them introduced to the topic

Tuesday- Place the students in two groups and present five facts on the childhood of Dr. Suess.  The students then will play a game using questions and bells to ring if they know the answer.

Wednesday- The children will make a stick puppet of a fox wearing sox.  Then there will be a reading of the story Fox in Socks.

Thursday- The class will play a bingo game designed to go over the facts learned at the beginning of the week.

Friday- A reading of Green Eggs and Ham

 

Week 2:

Monday- Using their imagination and construction paper they will create their own strange meal.  This is to follow the reading of Green Eggs and Ham.

Tuesday- Students will be presented with facts on the education of Dr. Suess.  Then the students will play a facts game where they move foward in the room for right answers to the questions; in teams.

Wednesday- A reading of Gerald McBoing Boing.  The children will create a story about talking to someone and the things that they would say.  The children will then replace words in their story with made-up words.

Thursday- The students will create a class story by each making up one sentence.  At the end each sentence will be looked at and as a class they will decide if more detail could be added to the sentence.

Friday- Watch the movie Gerald McBoing Boing

 

Week 3:

Monday- A reading of One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

Tuesday- The students will create a fish tank with a box, string, and playdo

Wednesday- The students will be given facts about the career of Dr. Suess.  The students will be given a sheet of the facts to look over at home.

Thursday- The students will be placed in two groups and play a true or false, points game.  Each student answering is allowed to discuss with their groups.

Friday- A reading of the Cat in the Hat

 

Week 4:

Monday- The students will make their own Dr. Suess hats that they will be allowed to wear everyday this week;  but will be kept in classroom till after Friday.

Tuesday- The students will decorate a white T-shirt using the theme of the Cat in the Hat.  They will orally describe what they have created.

Wednesday- The students will review facts on Dr. Suess that they have learned threw the week and decide what treats they want to bring for the final day on Friday

Thursday-The students will be given a true or false quiz about the life of Dr. Suess.  The number correct is not for a grade but a candy prize if appropriate for all the students.

Friday- Watch the movie the Cat in the Hat
