WebWork Instructions |
|
Some homework assignments in class may be done using WebWork. This is an automated online system which gives the student immediate feedback and automates the grading of each assignment. This page gives instructions as to how to log onto WebWork initially.
The WebWork home page is at http://webwork.radford.edu/. Go to this page and select the relevant entry from the pulldown menu for the course you are taking. You will be taken to a page which prompts you to log on.
Your login ID is your usually Radford login name and your initial password is you 6-digit Radford ID. As soon as you are logged in for the first time you should change your password. It is one of the options on the first screen.
WebWork works by offering you a set of "Problem Sets". Each of these is a homework assignment. There is one there called "Set 0". This is a practice set and will not be graded. Included in this set are instructions as to how to use WebWork and problems which prompt you to enter answers in the format it requires. You should always complete this problem set and make sure you get all the answers correct before you attempt anything which is for credit.
To attempt a problem set you should highlight it and click on the "Do Problem Set" button. You can get a hard copy of the problems set by selecting it and clicking "Get Hard Copy". Select the print format you want. If you do not know which one just take the default. There are two check boxes offer to show answers and solutions. These will work for any problem set which has been closed and can no longer be worked on but are not available for any problem set which is still open for new work.
Once you have selected a problem set you will be given a list of problems. When you have attempted any of them you will also be told what percentage you have correct. Highlight the problem you want to try and click "Get Problem". Once you are in a problem you can navigate to other problems using the "Previous" and "Next" buttons or you can return to the list of problems.
There is a "Preview Answers" button which allows you to see how WebWork interprets your input. You should use this a lot until you are comfortable with the syntax. When you are happy with the answers you have entered you should click "Submit Answers".
One of the nice features of WebWork is that the instructor can set a maximum number of tries you are allow to make on each problem. By default it is set to no limit. I usually leave it this way unless the question is multiple choice.
Each assignment has an open time and a close time. You can work on the assignment at any time between these limits. Once the close time is reached it is an automatic cut off - there is nothing can be done to change it - so do not leave your assignments until the last minute in case the system is busy.
Once the assignment is closed it is graded automatically and the instructor can go in and look at each persons scores. |
