WELCOME TO EKLECTIKA
A collection of my random thoughts on Go.

I have been officially rated as a 5 Dan by the American Go Association since 1988. I no longer study and so am not improving much but these days, my greatest pleasure in the game is teaching others. I having played the game since 1973 and have taught hundreds of people during that time.

This page is a collection of some things I have written about the game. More will be added as the mood takes me. I typically only write about two or three new article a year but, who knows, I might be inspired one day. Many of the articles are the SGF files for the series of lessons I give in the Wings room of the KGS server.

If you would like to discuss any of the material on this page the best way to find me (except for e-mail) is in the "The Straw Hut" on KGS, where I am usually logged on as DrStraw but also play as Vegetarian, straw and strawman. Look me up when you are there and, if I have time, we can chat.

I am created the twice-yearly KGS Team Tournament, which I passed onto someone else to run because of time constraints. This takes up quite a bit of time so I am not playing or teaching as much as I have in the past. You can also find some info about me in Sensei's Library (I did not create that entry but figured if someone else was going to be good enough to create one for me then I better maintain it.)

Book Reviews

I have started putting together some book reviews. Not many there yet but I plan on adding a few as the mood takes me. This link is actually a list of all the English language go books which I own with reviews of some of them. I hope to eventually review every one of them but as there are well over 100 that will take some time.

Counting Lessons

These are the SGF files from a series of five counting lessons I gave in the Wings room of KGS in the Fall and Winter of 2002-2003. I am seriously considering turning this into a series of web pages giving far more information than was possible in an online lesson. This may never happen and if it does it will not be for some time as I have many other interests. To be notified if this happens please see below.

Note that these are all SGF files so you will either have to tell your browser how to open them or save them to disk before opening
