INTRODUCTION
Imagine you and your friends are molecules! When you are put into the freezer, you are
squeezed tightly together to make a solid. When you are taken out, the temperature is
warmer, you can move around more and you become a liquid. You are put in a kettle! Yikes!
You become hot and you move even further apart as you become so light that you are gaseous
and float into the air.
Solid, liquid, and gas are all terms you recognize, they are states of matter. The ice in your glass is a solid. The Coke in your glass is a liquid. The steam from a teapot is a gas. These are all examples of states of matter.
TASK
You will visit a Website full of information about matter! You will be paired with another
student for this activity. You will be asked to read some of this information and answer
questions based on what you read. Then you will write your answers in your science
notebook.
ADVICE
You may want to print off a hard copy of the Web site. Use what we have talked about in
class to help you with the questions also! Do a good job to get a good grade!
