The Higher Education Center provides support to all institutions of higher education in their efforts to address alcohol and other drug problems.

 

BACCHUS and Gamma

"We are an international association of college and university based peer education programs focusing on alcohol abuse prevention and other student health and safety issues. Our mission is to actively promote peer education as a useful element of campus health education and wellness efforts. Through education and activities designed to increase awareness of changing student health and safety issues, BACCHUS and GAMMA focuses on the development and promotion of positive lifestyles and decision-making skills."

National Alcohol Screening Day

"National Alcohol Screening Day will be held during Alcohol Awareness Month. The program addresses a range of drinking behaviors from risky drinking to alcohol dependence. Based on the model used in the other SMH programs, the alcohol program includes an educational presentation, a written screening questionnaire, and an opportunity for participants to meet with a health professional. Referrals are provided when appropriate."

Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley

"The Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley, Inc. (WRC) provides programs and services for adult and child victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. It is a private, non-profit human service agency serving victims who live in the counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski, and the City of Radford. Begun in 1977, it is the oldest shelter operation in Virginia. All services are offered free of charge."

CDC's Tobacco Information Sourcepage

The Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) is a division within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), which is one of the centers within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). OSH is responsible for leading and coordinating strategic efforts aimed at preventing tobacco use among youth, promoting smoking cessation, and protecting nonsmokers from environmental tobacco smoke (ETS).
