Victim's Rights Act

On March 26, 1995 Governor Allen signed House Bill 2257 establishing the "Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act".

Similar to legislation enacted in 44 states, reflecting a national movement toward guaranteeing the rights of crime victims.

The Act defines "victim" as:
Anyone suffering physical, psychological or economic harm as direct result of a felony or certain misdemeanors. [Misdemeanors include: assault and battery against a family or household member, stalking, sexual battery, attempted sexual battery, or driving while intoxicated] See Va. Code 19.2-111.01 (B)
