4 Year Plan for Program Completion
It is imperative that IDHH majors follow the class schedule set forth in the 4 Year Plan for Program Completion. Failure to do so may lead to delayed graduation dates of up to one year.
Build and Maintain ASL Skills
It is impossible to become proficient in ASL through coursework alone. IDHH majors must participate in additional ASL opportunities in order to develop skills appropriate for blocking and student teaching. ASL enhancing activities include:
- Silent Gatherings - Silent Gatherings are held on campus every week on Wednesday and Thursday during the academic year.
- ASL Club - The ASL club provides an excellent opportunity for IDHH majors to:
- Learn about American Sign Language
- Learn about Deaf Culture
- Learn new signs
- Make new friends
- Have a good time!
- Get more information
- Silent Dinners in the New River Valley
Required Testing For IDHH majors
All IDHH majors must complete the following tests in order to fulfill degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with Virginia Licensure in Hearing Impairment PreK-12.
- Virginia Reading Assessment - Prepare by using tutorials available at www.vra.nesinc.com
- PRAXIS I - IDHH majors should take the PRAXIS as soon as possible. Students will not be allowed to student teach without passing scores. In order to student teach, students must obtain passing scores of: Reading: 178, Writing: 176, Math: 178, Composite: 532. For more PRAXIS I information, visit www.ets.org.
