Submitting Homework over the Network

These are general guidelines.  Please make sure you have checked with your instructor about the exact folder and naming conventions that you should be using for a particular class.

Why a network submission?

Instructors will often ask you to submit homework files over the campus network.  Having you place files into a shared submissions folder on one of the campus servers is much more efficient than dealing with tens or hundreds of email attachments.  It removes the need for the instructor to move those attachments around and more importantly it reduces the load on the campus mail servers, especially where the files involved are very large.

Naming your homework file:

Your instructor will give you information on how to name your submitted files.  It is extremely important that you carefully follow the naming instructions.  Files are collected automatically and a misnamed file will not be collected or graded.

How to submit your homework:

To submit your work simply drop it or copy it into your designated student folder.  Your student folder for a particular class can be accessed from any lab computer by first clicking the START button on the task bar, then clicking on the RUN button, then typing in \\Neelix\dropbox and hitting the enter key, and then clicking down to the appropriate submission folder.   For example:

\\neelix\dropbox\itec\itec340\rphillip\submissions\itec340-01-spring\jdoe

You will typically be able to overwrite or delete files as long as it is before the submission deadline.  At the deadline your files will be electronically collected from your student folder.

It is also possible to access submission folders on Neelix from off campus using FTP.  If you have problems with the FTP process you can also use the MY FILES button on the student Portal.
