Getting Started

March 10, 2006

James: Since technically our trip had not started yet, today doesn’t really count; but I suppose it was the beginning of our trials.  I left Radford at around 2:30 p.m. I would have liked to leave earlier to have more time at home before going to Alaska; however, I don’t skip class so 2:30 it was.

Everything was uneventful until I hit traffic from an accident on route 267 that added another two hours to my journey up to my home in Ashburn , Virginia . As I was packing up and preparing, I got a call from Dr. Herman, who had planned to arrive up North around 10 p.m.

We had forgotten a crucial piece of hardware and had to turn around to get it. To make matters worse, after picking up the hardware, he began to have car troubles. Dr. Herman did make it North by 3:30 a.m. I had tried to stay up to greet him but only made it to 2:45am.

Regardless, we both didn’t get much sleep that night. That wasn’t necessarily a bad thing though because being tired makes sleeping on airplanes easier. The good news is that we were packed and ready to leave.
