Creating a Personal Living Space

Rooms are furnished with two beds, two desks and chairs, a double dresser, and window blinds. A cable-ready television outlet, telephone jack and at least two ethernet computer hookups are also supplied.

Students are encouraged to personalize their rooms.
Please keep in mind that rooms must be left in the same condition as when first occupied. Students are not allowed to use nails or tacks to attach posters,    pictures, etc. to the walls or molding. Any use of tape or adhesive putty is at your own risk, and you will be held responsible if wall damage or discoloration occurs.

Bed bunking is available in all residence halls except Ingles and Norwood. For Fall Semester, requests can be made prior to the opening of school or before October 15 to have beds bunked or un-bunked. For Spring Semester, requests can be made before Spring Break.

To maximize space, students may have lofts in most buildings. All lofts must meet the university's approval and must be able to incorporate the university provided springs and mattress. Lofts are not permitted in Ingles, Norwood, or Tyler Halls. The beds in Floyd, Trinkle, Peery, Muse 10-13, Madison and Stuart are loftable, therefore no personal lofts are allowed in these buildings.

Students may choose to elevate their standard twin bed to create more storage space in the room.  This may only be done by placing a single cinderblock under each leg of the bed.  The block must be lying flat on the floor lengthwise and may not be stacked.  Students who own lofts or have bunked their beds may NOT elevate them in any way.

Carpets are permitted in the students' rooms. Room size varies, but most rooms will accommodate a 10' x 15' carpet.  Carpets are sold by any authorized vendor on opening day and are also available through the University Bookstore.  The university does not provide vacuum cleaners, but individual halls may own them and have them available.

Standard household goods such as shower curtains, lamps, wastebaskets, pillows, bed and bath linens, and
throw rugs are not provided. One microwave that draws 700 watts or less is permitted per room in Bolling, Draper, Floyd, Ingles, Norwood, Peery, Pocahontas, Stuart, Trinkle, and Tyler Halls.  Microwaves are not allowed in Jefferson, Madison, Moffett, Muse, or Washington Halls.  Below is a listed of additional permitted/not permitted items.

stores.

E-mail / Internet All residence halls have active Ethernet and wireless computer connections installed. The Computer Help  Desk (831-6300) is located on the first floor of Walker Hall. Questions regarding hardware and system requirements should be directed to this office. E-mail accounts are automatically created for all students enrolled in classes at RU.

Telephone A phone jack is provided in each room. Students living on campus can enjoy call waiting with tone
block, call forwarding, call transfer, three-way calling, and consultation at no additional cost. The basic monthly
fees are included in your room and board fees. Caller ID is available at an additional charge. The university also offers long distance service. This service issues a code which allows you to dial long distance from any on-campus or local area phone. Information is available through Student Telephone Services (831-6600).

Recycling Radford University is concerned about the long-term impact of refuse on the environment. Recycling
bins are available upon request by students for convenience in participating in recycling efforts. Collection sites
are located in each of the residence halls to collect aluminum cans, white paper, and glass.

Laundry Facilities Washers and dryers are located in each residence hall (washers: $1.25 per load; dryers
$1.25 per load). All machines operate using quarters and some machines also accept the RU Express Card. The operating instructions are listed inside the lid of each machine. Ironing boards are located in some halls, but you must provide an iron. Helpful Hint: Bring rolls of quarters to save the hassle of finding them on laundry day.
