Off-Campus Education Session Information

Information regarding Off-Campus Education Sessions will be available early Spring semester. Until then, students who are otherwise required to live on campus are strongly discouraged from signing any leases as they may end up being responsible for both their residential agreement and an off-campus lease.

  1. When and where are the sessions?

Information regarding Off Campus Education Sessions will be available early Spring semester.

  1. Who Should Attend the Off Campus Education Session?

    • All first-year students who have not lived in the residence halls for four (4) semesters and plan to move out of the residence halls next year, including the University-Operated Apartments. Remember, to be eligible to move off campus, the student must have lived on for at least two (2) semesters and attend the session.
    • Anyone who wants to get some general information/education about what to expect when signing a lease for an apartment.

  1. What is the purpose of the Off Campus Education Session?

This session is designed to present students with useful information related to making housing choices. The sessions are sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students and the Off Campus Student Council; local realtors and legal representatives also participate to provide additional information.

  1. If I plan to live on campus next fall, do I need to attend one of the sessions?

No. Please remember, these are the only times the session will be offered.

  1. If I attend one of the sessions, am I required to move off campus?

No. Attending this session gives you permission to move off campus. However, you are welcome to remain on campus for the upcoming academic year.

  1. If I plan on living in a University-Operated Apartment, do I need to attend?

Maybe. If you have lived in the residence halls less than four (4) semesters, then you need to attend one of the sessions. If you have lived in the halls four (4) semesters or you will have Junior status by the fall, then you do not need to attend.

  1. When will I receive information to live on campus next year?

Early in the Spring, 2010 semester.

  1. If I am not eligible to move off campus and I do not sign up for a space on campus, what will happen?

If you are not eligible to move off campus, and you did not select a space in the residence halls, a space will be assigned for you. You will be charged room and board for the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 semesters if you enroll at Radford University for the academic year.

  1. How will I know if I have been released from the requirement to live on campus for the 2010-11 academic year?

All students who successfully complete the Off Campus Education session will receive a form which confirms that you are eligible to move off campus. Because each form is unique to the person, you will need to present your student ID and sign the form at the end of the program.

  1. How long will the session last?

The session will take approximately one hour.

  1. Do I need to bring anything to the session?

Yes, your student ID and a pen or pencil to take notes. Students who do not have a photo ID with them will not be able to pick up the form which confirms your successful completion of the Off Campus Education Session.

  1. Do I have to go to all four sessions?

No, you will only need to attend one of the sessions.

  1. How much does the Off Campus Education session cost to attend?

There is no charge to attend the Off Campus Education session.

  1. Will make-up sessions be offered?

No.

  1. I am a new freshmen/transfer who started school in the spring 2010 semester, am I eligible to live off campus for the 2010-2011 academic year?

No, you will be required to live on campus for the entire 2010-2011 academic year, unless you have junior status by the fall semester. You can fulfill the second semester requirement by being enrolled and living in the residence halls for summer school.

  1. If I have a specific question or situation I need clarification on, who should I contact?

You should contact the Office of Housing & Residential Life. You can stop by the Housing & Residential Life Office in Heth Hall, contact them via email (res-life@radford.edu) or call them at (540) 831-5375.
