DSNF 491. Apparel Design Production II
One hour lecture, four hours laboratory (3).
Prerequisites: DSNF 481 (Grade of “C” or better).
A study of apparel production processes. Students use research methods and design processes to solve design problems and produce garments that meet industry specifications and quality evaluation. The capstone course for Fashion Design.
- Detailed Description of Content of Course
In this course, the student will implement design solutions for apparel production. Topics include: apparel line development based on specified needs of a target market; industry standards and specifications; quality evaluation; and proper fit of garments.
- Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Lectures will be used to discuss design production. In studios, the student will complete original design research projects from inception to final product as an individual project and as a group/team. The student will need to apply previously learned skills in design theory and process, sketching, patternmaking, construction, board presentations and CAD to complete each project.
- Goals and Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will demonstrate:
- Application of selected design processes.
- Application of industry standards and specifications.
- Understanding of fit related to end use and target market
- Compare and appraise projects completed as a team or individual.
- Evaluation of solutions to a design problem.
- Competency in the use of CAD and product development software for the design industry.
- Competency in critical thinking in both two-dimensions and three-dimensions.
- Competency in producing properly fitting garments for a specified target market from inception to final product.
- Assessment Measures
Student assessment will be based on projects, reports, presentations, final designs, critiques, and completion of portfolio.
