DSNF 481. Apparel Design Production I
One hour lecture, four hours laboratory (3).
Prerequisites: DSNF 391.
Study of design processes and research methods used to develop apparel product designs. Problem identification and implementation of research methods will be used to develop creative products.
- Detailed Description of Content of Course
In this course, the student will implement design solutions for apparel production. Topics include: design process models; design theory applied to the market place; problem identification; apparel design research methods; market identification; needs assessment research; design solutions (manual and CAD techniques); sourcing of materials; fabric design; and pattern development.
- Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
In lecture, the student will be introduced to research methods and design processes that are used to solve design problems. In studio, the student will experience the team approach, as well as that of an independent researcher for product line development.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will demonstrate:
- Evaluation of design processes.
- Application of needs assessment research.
- Application of design theory to design solutions.
- Ability to identify a design problem and solution.
- Ability to develop a set of solutions to a design problem through team work.
- Ability to document their design process.
- Competency in communicating design solutions.

Student assessment will be based on projects, reports, presentations, and critiques.
