DSNF 304. CAD for Apparel Design
One hour lecture, four hours laboratory (3).
Prerequisites: DSNF 323 (Grade of “C” or better)
Provides experience with software (computer aided design, product development and management programs) designed for use in the fashion industry.
- Detailed Description of Content of Course
The student will be exposed to software applications used to create technical design sketches and draft patterns. Design ideas will be developed on the computer and then executed in fabric. Industry reports will be computer generated and electronically attached to each design.
- Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Lecture will be used to demonstrate software applications. Studio will allow the student to experiment and develop design ideas and projects. Students will represent original design ideas through technical sketches, patterns, digital textile designs, and reports.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will demonstrate:
- Application of design theories and aesthetics.
- Skill and application of CAD for pattern development.
- Skill and application of product development and management software.
- Skill and application of product line development.
- Skill and application of producing a garment from inception to final product.
- Critical thinking in both two-dimensions and three-dimensions.
