FINAL HONORS PROJECT

DNCE 488H: Honors Project
Two to three credit hours(2-3).

This project and the topic to be explored will be determined by the student, the faculty member with whom the student works and the student's major program area. (An Honors Project may be a written or performance-based project.) This course may not be repeated nor may a student earn below a "B" in order to receive credit toward completion of the Honors Program requirements.

  1. Detailed Description of Content of Course

The content of the course will vary with each student. The student may write an extended, researched paper or produce a significant creative work or take a comprehensive examination. All final projects must be approved by the department and the Honors Council.

  1. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The student's final project supervisor will ask two other faculty members, one of whom will be from the Dance Department, to serve as co-evaluators of the student's work.

  1. Goals and Objectives of the Course

At the conclusion of this project the student may take a comprehensive examination in the system of dance technique (for example, the advanced Cecchetti exam) or may produce a creative work of significant length and substance for public performance or may display mastery of technique and artistry in through the performance of a solo from the standard dance repertoire or created especially for that dancer or may organize findings from independent original research in dance in a sustained piece of writing that demonstrates ability to discover information and to analyze, synthesize, and interpret that information.

  1. Assessment Measures

The supervisor of the final project and the final project committee will be responsible for evaluating the success of the project.
