ESHE 122. Softball
Two contact hours per week (1).

Practice and study of softball skills.

  1. Detailed Description of Content of Course

This course is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to develop basic skills needed to successfully play softball. Content includes game rules and strategy, terminology safety and sportsmanship and a review of these skills: throwing, catching, hitting, fielding, ground balls, fly balls, and base running.

  1. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The class is primarily activity oriented with brief verbal explanations of required skills and other printed materials (hand-outs). Teacher demonstrations of the basic skills and one-on-one teaching reinforcement is used. Lead-up games, and regular games of softball are played with team skills balanced for safety and overall student enjoyment.

  1. Goals and objectives of the Course

The student shall:

1. demonstrate knowledge of softball rules, strategy, terminology, safety and sportsmanship;
2. be able to throw and hit a softball with reasonable success and accuracy in game situation;
3. be able to catch battle balls on the ground and in the air with reasonable skill;
4. be able to row the bases with skill and knowledge of the game situation and strategy.

  1. Assessment Measures

Assessment measures include one written test 25%; skills tests in hitting 20%; fielding 20%, throwing 20%; and attendance 15%
