Three hour lecture.

This course provides a study of analysis of risks, policy provisions, different types of insurance, organizational structures of insurance companies, social insurance, and regulation of the insurance industry.

  1. Detailed Description of Conduct of the Course

Formal lectures amplifying the text explain risk management, and then the various insurances. Brief instructor presentations and ensuing class discussions illustrate current relevant news items. The class is writing intensive, with six business memoranda and a term paper.

  1. Goals and Objectives of the Course

1. To introduce business majors to the importance of the risk management process to both organizations and families.
2. To familiarize students with the various types of insurance alternatives available to deal with their exposures to the perils of death, disability, accident, sickness, retirement income, property loss, and liability.

  1. Assessment Measures

Graded assignments may include in-class tests, mid-term and final examinations, written business memoranda on assigned topics, term-papers, and class discussions.
