ITEC 495. Information Systems Capstone
Three hours lecture (3).

Prerequisite: Senior standing, Information Science and Systems major, ITEC 225, ITEC 340, ITEC 370, FINC 331, MGNT 357.

Advanced topics in information systems that build on previous courses in software engineering, web programming, databases and business. This course is intended to provide a large information system capstone experience.

2. Detailed Description of Content of Course

This course will emphasize strategic planning, business requirements analysis, and management of large information systems projects. The topics include:

• Alignment of information system and organizational strategic plans.
• Project planning, including evaluating project feasibility.
• Business process reengineering and impact on information system requirements.
• Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
• The impact of technology on the supply-chain.
• Planning, developing, and implementing e-commerce initiatives.
• Acquiring technology solutions to meet strategic objectives.
• Structuring outside vendor relationships, including the negotiation of contracts.
• Managing the implementation and operational phases of the lifecycle.
• Structuring and managing the internal information technology function.
• The impact of data mining and warehousing on information systems.

3. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

A large system project will be used to discuss the contents of the course and provide students with experience in large information systems.

4. Goals and Objectives of the Course

To provide information technology students in the information systems track with skills required for managing and implementing large information systems projects.

5. Assessment Measures

Participation in all activities related to the class project is crucial to successful completion of this course.
