ITEC 441. Database II
Three hours lecture (3).

Prerequisite: ITEC 340.

A continuation of the introduction to the techniques used in the modeling and manipulation of large sets of data. An in-depth coverage of triggers, assertions, PL/SQL, advanced modeling concepts, normalization, etc.

2. Detailed Description of Content of Course

This course will emphasize the concepts and structures necessary to model and manipulate large sets of data. The topics include:

1. Analysis and design of database systems
2. Database management

• Database security
• Data integrity and reliability
• Database tuning

3. Advanced concepts in SQL
4. Theoretical concepts

• Normalization
• Relational algebra

5. Web-based database applications
6. Stored procedures and triggers
7. Language extensions for databases
8. Distributed databases

3. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Techniques of database design and implementation are discussed and practiced. Various projects are assigned to give students experience in database management.

4. Goals and Objectives of the Course

To provide information technology students with the knowledge and skills to design and implement database systems.

5. ASSESSMENT MEASURES

Students will be evaluated based on several given projects and a minimum of two examinations.
