3. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The philosophy and methods of three music educators, Dalcroze, Kodaly and Orff, are examined. Students experience teaching models through class experiences, video tapes and other materials. Tools of the methods, such as solfege, rhythmic movement and improvisation are explored.

4. Goals and Objectives of the Course

At the conclusion of the course, the student will have knowledge of the teaching methods of Emile Jazques-Dalcroze, Zoltan Kodaly, and Carl Orff, and the impact of these methods on music education in America. The student will demonstrate musical skills which represent the three teaching methods: rhythmic movement, piano improvisation, solfege, hand signals, rhythmic syllables, speech rhythms, improvisation on recorder and tonebar instruments. The student will have hands-on experiences with instructional repertoire and materials for the three teaching methods.
