CRJU 699. Research and Thesis
Credit Hours (1-6).
Hours and credit arranged with the approval of the student's thesis supervisor, advisor, and dean of the Graduate College.
A student pursuing the Master of Arts degree will complete six hours of research credit and must submit an acceptable thesis, approved by the graduate committee members.
A student planning to do a thesis should submit a proposal to the dean of the Graduate College at least two weeks before the end of the semester preceding the semester when the work will begin. This proposal is submitted on a form available in the Graduate Office, which must be signed by the student's adviser, by the graduate faculty member who will direct the work, and by the other members of the student's committee.
The particular style used in writing a thesis is determined by the thesis director, but general rules regarding style can be specified by the graduate faculty in the department involved. Basic guidelines for all theses can be obtained from the Graduate College Office.
To equip and prepare the student through in depth study and research in a specialized topic for the criminal justice profession. The student is expected to integrate learned knowledge and skills and to demonstrate this in the written form of a thesis.
The thesis grade will be recorded as "Pass" or "Fail."
Students who plan to do a thesis are advised to begin serious planning of this work during the first semester of enrollment as a graduate student. Past experiences have shown that it is very difficult for a student to do a respectable job on the thesis if all work is concentrated in the last semester before graduation.
