Prerequisites: Upper level standing as a Music Therapy major.
Pre- or corequisite: MUSC102
Study of uses of music, past and present, and its effect on man's behavior.
- Detailed Description of Content of Course
The purpose of this course is to have students explore the variety of ways in which music is a major influence on individual and group behavior. The major areas that will be covered in this course are:
- Ethnomusicology
- Music and models of psychotherapy
- Guided Imagery and Music
- Historical uses of music
- religious
- communication
- ritual
- entertainment
- medicine
- Effects of music on man's behavior
- synesthesia and intersense modalities
- physical and verbal behavior
- social behavior
- Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Lecture and group discussion in an informal, discovery type format.
- Goals and Objectives of the Course
- To explore the functionality of music
- To explore the place and effect of music and it's relationship to man and his behavior
- To observe and analyze musical events and types of music in terms of function and effect
- To review/explore literature pertinent to the influence of music on behavior
- To write and report in an appropriate style

Graded assignments will include topic papers, analyses of musical events, written exams
