MUSIC BUSINESS FIELD EXPERIENCE
MUSC204:304:404. Music Business Field Experience
One-three hours lecture (1-3).
Prerequisites: MUSC104 and permission of instructor.
This organized and structured experience in a music business setting involves thirty to ninety hours observation and participation under the supervision of a business manager or owner. (May be taken again for credit.)
The purpose of this course is for the student to practice and implement music business skills in an actual business setting under the supervision of an experienced person in the field.
Students will be placed in a field experience setting by the instructor. In addition to weekly class and laboratory time, students will be responsible for completing 2 to 6 hours per week of field observation/assistance for a total of 30 to 90 hours per semester.
(1) To develop improved business skills with employees and the public in the music business field.
(2) To practice business skills on site.
(3) To develop observational writing skills.
Students will fulfill required field experience hours and prepare an observation log in a scholarly and professional manner. Students will complete a time and activities log documenting field experience hours and professional activities. Students will complete a written project demonstrating assimilation of new skills. A final evaluation of the student completed by the on-site supervisor will also be required.
Students majoring in Music Business must complete this course with a grade of C or better in order to receive credit towards their degree program.
