ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION FOR DESIGN
DSNM 263. Merchandising Mathematics
Three hours lecture (3).
Prerequisites : DSN 110 (Grade of “C” or better) and DSN 111 (Grade of “C” or better).
A study of the retail mathematics practices used in the procurement and sales of apparel and interior products. Student cannot receive credit if previously taken DSNF 263.DSNM 243.
The student is exposed to accounting and financial procedures specific to the acquisition and sale of apparel and interior products/services at the wholesale and retail levels. Topics covered include: the nature of retail merchandising; components of profit/loss; markon (individual, cumulative, and average); shipping terms and dating; purchase orders and invoices; gross margin concepts; six-month merchandise planning; dollar open-to-buy planning; and merchandise assortment planning.
Course content is delivered through lecture. Active learning techniques will be employed to stimulate student learning.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will demonstrate:

This course is required for all DSNM majors. Offered twice during the year, once in Spring semester and another in Summer.
