PATTERN GRADING

DSNF 383. Pattern Grading
Two hours lecture, two hours laboratory (3).

Prerequisites: DSNF 303 (Grade of “C” or better).

Introduction to techniques used for increasing and decreasing a standard size pattern to a range of sizes. Manual and computer grading methods and development of garment sizes from specifications will be explored.

  1.  Detailed Description of Content of Course

The student will be presented the principles and techniques of pattern grading theory. Topics include: computer and manual pattern grading methods; two-axis grading; grading stretch garments and design variations; and development of garment sizes from specifications.

  1. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

During lecture, the principles and techniques of different grading systems will be explained. During studio, the student will grade patterns by manual and computer methods. The methods will be compared and analyzed.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will demonstrate:

Student assessment will include graded patterns and development of grade rule tables. Tests and pattern grading exercises/projects will be an integral part of the assessment for the course.
