DSNF 254. Advanced Garment Assembly
One hour lecture, four hours laboratory (3).

Prerequisites: DSNF 253 (Grade of “C” or better). Credit Hours:

Advanced construction techniques and use of a variety of fabrics will be explored. Development of skills in application of construction techniques, and use of different equipment, fabrics and findings.

  1. Detailed Description of Content of Course

This course is for the student to explore the effect different fabrics and construction techniques have on the production and appearance of garments. Advance construction techniques and specialty fabrics are studied. Emphasis will be placed on the student understanding the relationship between fabric type, style and quality. Other topics include pattern modification and garment fit.

  1. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

In lecture, advanced principles and construction techniques for apparel production will be demonstrated. Since this course emphasizes decision making, the student will determine appropriate fabrics and construction techniques for their particular product in studio.

Assessment in lecture will be based on tests and critiques. Assessment in studio will include product evaluation based on specifications, construction techniques, and decision making aspects of product development.
