DSNF 233. Meaning of Dress
Three hours lecture (3).

Prerequisites: DSNF133 (Grade of “C” or better), and PSCY 121 or SOCY 110

A study of the cultural, social, psychological, and physical factors which influence market segmentation in the apparel industry.

  1. Detailed Description of Content of Course

This course exposes the student to basic theories in psychology and sociology as related to human adornment and consumer behavior. Topics include: apparel and personal adornment; relationship of apparel and personal/ interpersonal behavior; economic factors related to apparel consumption; market analysis, identification, and segmentation; global and cultural influences on apparel consumption.

  1. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Course material is presented through an illustrated lecture approach. Informal and formal writing and reading assignments are used to help students grasp the material as well as explore in depth special areas of interest.
