REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE
DNCE 260: Rehearsal and Performance
One credit hour(1).
Four hours technique.
For student with ability in dance and a desire to participate in dance as a performing art. Includes participation in master classes, lecture-demonstrations, and concerts on and off campus. Dance majors and minors enrolled in this course must be concurrently enrolled in a dance technique class such as ballet, modern dance, or jazz. May be taken multiple times for credit.
1. Dance repertoire
a. Works in the domain of classical ballet (e.g., Swan Lake, Act II, staged by faculty, guest choreographers, or students)
b. Works in the repertoire of the Radford University Dance Theatre
c. Works set from a Labanotated score and checked by an authorized Labanotator
2. Lecture-demonstrations for grade school, high school, or civic groups
3. New works for studio or mainstage performance or other settings that are created by faculty, students, or guest choreographers
A professional approach in which the students of dance develop and exhibit skills in the area of performance by rehearsing and presenting dance to the public.
At the conclusion of the course, the student will:
1. Demonstrate the responsibility to consistently attend rehearsals in preparation for performances.
2. Demonstrate the ability to successfully participate in a public performance situation (lecture-demonstration, informal concerts, mainstage productions).
Assessment measures include direct observation, regular attendance at rehearsals, and evaluation of performance skills as displayed in production.
