LOW-INTERMEDIATE BALLET
DNCE 205: Low-Intermediate Ballet
Two credit hours(2).
Four hours technique.
Prerequisite: Two semesters of DNCE 105 or permission of the instructor.
Barre and centre practice progressing in difficulty as to length and complexity of exercises. Includes adagio and allegro technique. May be taken for a total of eight semester hours of credit.
1. Barre
As in all ballet classes, the sequence of the barre work remains essentially the same whether the student is a beginner or a professional, but the exercises become more complex and have varying speeds as the student advances. A professional approach in which the fundamental technique and theory of classical ballet is solidified and the nuances of the art form are introduced to the student with a basic ballet background.
At the conclusion of the course, the student will . . .
1. Demonstrate technical competency in the executing of classical ballet technique at a low-intermediate level.
2. Possess a general understanding of the Classical aesthetic and how it relates to technical principles.
The student may be measured through direct observation by the instructor, digital/video taping for analysis, practical and written exams, and class attendance.
