INTERNSHIP IN MUSEUM STUDIES
Art 493. Museum Internship
Credit Hours (3-6).
Prerequisite: Art 491: Museum Studies.
Integrates academic knowledge with hands-on field experience in an off-campus museum facility and puts into practice knowledge and theories essential for competency in museum work. May be repeated for credit.
The student will secure an internship and agreement with staff supervisor regarding student's responsibilities and length of employ. Student is required to work a minimum of 200 hours (for 3 credits) at a museum facility.
Through academic affiliation, faculty member will oversee internship and review all progress reports and intern evaluations.
Museum Internship will extend the theories and practices learned in Museum Studies (ART 491). Students will experience work in a museum career firsthand. An internship will also enhance students’ professionalism.
Museum Internship will be a pass-fail course. Student will be evaluated by two criteria (1) that the student has met the basic obligation, i.e., has worked 200 hours with supervision, (2) that the student's work's is satisfactory. Assessment is structured according to Radford University's Student Teaching Handbook.
Student will be required to write a final paper detailing activities and outcomes of fieldwork.
