ADVANCED SCULPTURE
Art 404. Advanced Sculpture
Two hours lecture, demonstration or critique; three hours studio (3).
Prerequisite: Art 204
Exploration of advanced concepts and methods of sculpture (3-D). May be taken multiple times for credit.
Students in Art 404 are engaged in the process of planning and making sculptures. This also involves researching, thinking and talking about three-dimensional art. As the students learn the necessary skills, personal directions and expression are encourage.
Decisions about materials, methods of working and about style and content are made by the individual student with the help of the professor and group critiques with other students in the class. Each semester one assignment will be given to the whole class in the form of a sculpture problem or theme. Research, written and oral reports will be used to develop individual directions and to increase the student's depth of understanding of sculpture.
The student will make sculptures and demonstrate an understanding of three-dimensional art.
Grades will be based on the quality of the student's participation in the planning process, making, and critiquing of sculptures and on the quality of the sculptures completed by the student.
