This course covers the appropriate uses of insurance contracts, such as property, casualty, life, health, disability, and annuity contracts, for individual and business insurance planning. It also covers rate-making, operating and investing practices of insurers.

Written business memoranda as assigned topics plus formal lectures amplifying the text(s) explain the material. Pursue important subjects in greater details ensuing class discussions. Guest speakers address larger issues of interest. The class is writing intensive.
1. To introduce business majors to the size, scope, opportunities, constraints, organization, and operation of two major classes of financial services institutions.
2. To increase the relevant knowledge of students with respect to the products' design, cost, and distribution so as to improve their future choices of careers and financial protection.
Graded assignments may include in-class tests, mid-term and final examinations, written business memoranda on assigned topics, term papers, and class discussions.
