Prerequisites: Completion of English general education requirements, senior standing, enrollment in Honors Academy, Completion of all other Honors Academy requirements, a minimum 3.5 GPA in all courses and in English.
To earn a bachelor’s degree with honors in English, a student may conduct research and write a thesis or prepare for and take a comprehensive examination. In order to receive honors credit, a student must earn a grade of “A” or “B” for the final project. Course may not be repeated.
The content of this course will vary with each student. The student will write either a researched critical essay or a comparable creative manuscript or other original writing project or take a comprehensive examination. All final projects must be approved by the department and the Honors Council.
The student’s final project supervisor will ask two other faculty members, one of whom will be from the English department, to serve as readers. The student’s work will be evaluated by this committee.
The goal of this course is to provide students in the Honors Program majoring in English with the opportunity to synthesize their undergraduate career in English. The final project should demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize, to write a sustained piece of original work or research, and to communicate ideas effectively.
The supervisor of the final project and the final project committee will be responsible for evaluating the success of the project.
