INTRODUCTION TO FORENSIC SCIENCE
CRJU 341. Introduction to Forensic Science
Three hours lecture(3).
Prerequisites: CRJU 320
Study of the application of biological and physical sciences in the legal system. The course introduces the student to the principles and methods of a forensic laboratory. Students may not receive credit for both CRJU 241 and CRJU 341.

(a) General vs. specific information
(b) Quantitative vs. qualitative techniques
(c) Chemical vs. Physical testing
(d) How to develop a scheme of testing
(e) Where are the guidelines and limitations for science in the courtroom.
(3) Forensic Chemistry
(4) Serology
(5) Physical Pattern Evidence
CRJU 241 will be taught primarily as a lecture discussion. There will be times where demonstrations, overheads, and slides will be used for emphasis and clarification.
Having successfully completed this course, the student will:
(1) have an understanding of the role of Forensic Science in the criminal justice system.
(2) be acquainted with a range of scientific investigative techniques and develop competency in assessing their application and merit in the legal system.
(3) have a working knowledge of the major specialty areas in the field.
(4) have a background of information of value to the student planning a career in law, law enforcement or forensic science.
(1) Examinations: The student will be given three tests and one comprehensive final exam.
