Teaching Philosophy and Courses I Teach
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is one in which I believe that students should be treated with respect and encouraged to develop their potential for independent thinking and self-assessment. I believe students learn best when they are actively involved in applying course material in class to deal with real world problems. I encourage students to critically assess what they are learning and to develop the ability to appreciate different points of view. Developing self-awareness is critical in the counseling profession and therefore a focus of my courses as well. I run my classes so that there are mini-lectures, class discussion, and application of material to real life problems. I try to help students develop a deep understanding for the material they are learning and consider its significance.
