The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation was adopted in 1969 as Phi
Sigma Sigma's official philanthropy. In 1971 the Foundation choose the
National Kidney Foundation as its primary philanthropic endeavor.
Phi Sigma Sigma chapters everywhere raise funds
annually for the NKF during the Rock-A-Thon. Sisters take turns rocking
for 24 hours, last year our chapter was given a donation of $100 from just one
individual who had personally been affected by Kidney Disease!!
In the spring our chapter hosts Radford University's
All Greek Male Review. Phi Sigma Sigma teams up with members from IFC
organizations to raise money for a good cause. The Geek Male "Beauty"
Pageant is always hysterical everyone has a good time and the men always help to
put on a very entertaining show!
Did you know that?
- 20 million Americans - 1 in 9 US adults -
have Chronic Kidney Disease
- Early detection helps prevent the
progression of kidney disease to kidney failure.
- Hypertension and Chronic Kidney Disease
have been shown to cause one another
- People with diabetes, hypertension and
family history of kidney disease are all considered "high risk"
- African Americans, Hispanics, Pacific
Islanders, Native Americans and Seniors are at increased risk
- Three simple tests can detect CKD: blood
pressure, urine albumin and serum creatinine**
Phi Sigma Sigma's goal is to educate the public on the
truths of Kidney Disease as well as the extreme need for organ and tissue
donations.

The Betty Ann Moore Colon Cancer Awareness Fund at Gibbs
Regional Cancer Center was established in 2003 by John Moore and Anne Brady
Moore after the death of their mother. Betty Ann was diagnosed with Stage IV
colon cancer in 1999. Her mission after her diagnosis was to educate everyone
she could on the importance of screening. To continue their mother's mission,
her children partnered with Spartanburg Regional Medical Center to create a
program in upstate South Carolina to educate individuals and offer free
screenings. The foundation currently provides free screening for South Carolina residents
that wouldn't be able to get screened otherwise. To read more of this

Our chapter adopted the Betty Ann Moore Colon Cancer
Awareness Foundation as our local philanthropy. Anne Brady, Radford University
and Phi Sigma Sigma alumni, lost her mother to colon cancer and has since has
been a dynamic advocate for colon cancer research, early screenings, and public
awareness much of which started when she established the Betty Ann Moore Colon
Cancer Awareness Foundation.
