Our Mission Statement

The Pre-Major Advising Center provides academic advising for students who have not yet chosen a major at Radford University. New students are assisted with their transition to Radford University to assure a successful first-year experience. Pre-Major students have excellent opportunities to utilize the many resources available to investigate and explore interests, majors, and careers. Students are encouraged to enhance their education experiences, and resources available both on and off the Radford University campus.

Advisors individually assist students in the process of choosing a major, as well as monitoring and assisting them with academic success. They will also clarify academic policies that affect their education plans. Advisors encourage students to explore different majors and courses that they find interesting and to examine carefully their educational goals, interests, abilities, talents, values, and resources. Pre-Major students have a sufficient time to make a wise and well informed decision and are expected to choose a major by the time they have completed their freshmen year.

The Pre-Major advisors understand the special needs and concerns of students who have not yet chosen a major, and they provide individualized advising suited to each students needs. They receive intensive training prior to the beginning of each fall semester and meet weekly during the academic year to continue their professional development. The Pre-Major Advising Center also serves as a referral office for information on academic policies and procedures, majors, academic success, and other university services.
