Greenbank 2006

Radford University Physics and Astronomy Club goes to Greenbank again in 2006. This year we took some interesting hydrogen specta in the galatic plane. When got some good data of radio sources of the Orion area. This year we collected conventional paper data as well as digital data thanks to the analog to digital converter hooked up a computer in the control room of the 40 foot.

The 40 foot
This is the radio telescope that we get to control. We took lots of data. We looked at some of the spectral spread or shifting of hydrogen as well as the relative intensity of hydrogen that is out there in space.

Taking a break to eat.

Data
Here is some of that data I have been talking about. A more clear and concise report is in the process of being made.

The 140 foot
The 140 foot telescope was put back into service this past year.

Electronics and Reciever for the GBT
Here are some pictures from the electronics lab for the GBT. The small gold chip is a piece of the electronics for the GBT reciever. It is cooled to 4K to prevent any intenal interference.
