Outreach Efforts for a Diverse Applicant Pool

  • Contact Human Resources to review the search process and the current faculty profile.
  • Determine recruitment goals for department.
  • Review strategies that will help to diversify applicant pool.
  • Send letters with position announcement that encourages individuals to apply to:
1. List of attendees from conferences
2. Other personal contacts/colleagues
3. Appointees from appointments section of Diverse Issues in Higher Education or other publications
4. Potential applicants from nominations list.
  • Post position announcement on the National Minority Faculty Identification Program website (please contact ccarter29@radford.edu).
  • When making direct contact with those minority individuals nominated, describing the position and the institution, determining their interest, and  if interested, requesting additional information-resume, application, and names of references.
  • Visiting schools that graduate a large number of minority and or female individuals with the Ph.D. in the discipline.
