The Director will be expected to:  identify ways in which the university may add economic value to local communities and to the Commonwealth, and prepare an economic development analysis of the economic effects the university has on the local communities and the Commonwealth; engage the university’s intellectual and physical resources with the needs of communities, local, regional, and state governments and other non-profit organizations and companies; increase the awareness and accessibility of the university’s resources; expand campus outreach in economic development; serve as an entry point for external organizations to access the intellectual and physical assets of the university; work with deans, department chairs and school directors to facilitate student internships and career planning with community business partners and educational and project partners; and increase the awareness on campus of regional and state issues and concerns.

Required qualifications include MBA, Masters of Public Administration, or related Masters with five years relevant experience, or bachelor’s degree with 10 years relevant experience; experience at progressively greater levels of responsibility in economic development and public/private ventures; evidence of effective written and oral communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with both businesses and the university; supervisory and management experience; and strategic planning and business experience.

Preferred qualifications include a demonstrated track record of inter-institutional, inter-agency, and interdisciplinary communication, collaboration and partnership development; experience in strategic planning process involving diverse constituencies; ability to prioritize multiple projects and select those best aligned with institutional and divisional mission and goals; knowledge of business attraction and retention methods, and commercial and publicly-directed financing sources; comprehensive knowledge of how government, business and higher education can effectively interact; and the ability to manage the development, cultivation, and delivery of a multifaceted set of community based programs.
