About SORTS

The S.O.R.T.S. (Students on the Road to Success) program offers a second chance to new students who were academically unsuccessful in their first semester.* It is an invitation-only, contractual program, for students with a GPA below 1.25 after their first semester. The program is designed to provide students an opportunity to acquire and enhance the skills necessary for academic success in higher education. Each student's progress is closely monitored by the SORTS staff. Components of the program include the following:

Structured Study Hall

Students are required to attend study hall a minimum of six hours per week. Study Hall hours are Monday – Thursday, 1:00pm – 8:00pm in Walker 153.

Peer Mentors

Each SORTS participant will be assigned a Peer Mentor. Peer Mentors are upper-class students who provide academic, personal, and social support to students in the program. They maintain regular weekly contact with their assigned students. Peer Mentors can help with academic concerns, class scheduling, utilizing the library, career services, and adjusting to the university.

Office of New Student Programs

Professional staff in the New Student Programs office will serve as a resource for all SORTS students. Workshops and other training resources will be presented throughout the semester. In addition, students will have one on one advising sessions with the staff throughout the semester.
