WHOREHOUSE
April 13th-17th, the RU Theater, Music and Dance Departments teamed
up to present, “The
Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” The play, featuring Broadway Actress,
Susann Fletcher as Miss Mona, depicted an 1800’s Texas brothel (a.k.a. “the
chicken ranch”) that was forced to shut down due to political reasons.
The play was the first musical at Radford since 2000, and one of the very first
collaborative efforts amongst all three departments. Melvin P. Thorpe, played
by William Miller, is the TV man that comes into town and gets the chicken shack
closed down. Before being shut down, the ranch is not only the small texas’ town
main form of entertainment but also one of its strongest economical institutions.
Susann Fletcher (Miss Mona) is the “mom” of all the prostitutes.
Susann is a six time Broadway actress who played Ruby Rae and Angel in the Broadway
production of Whorehouse. Other Broadway productions of hers include: The Full
Monty, Guys and Dolls, How to Succeed in Business and Raggedy Ann.
The play is directed by Wesley Young and is based on a true story by Larry King.

Things actors had to say about Whorehouse….
Scott Brown (about taking his clothes off) - Coming here, I was actually pretty
comfortable; I don’t really mind it too much.
(Talking about the combination of the Theater, Music and Dance Departments) – Its
just amazing how close we are. Throughout this whole show we have become so close.
