ROC Goes For New Image
by Chris DaMico
ROC-TV has been a
fixture on campus for about a decade. Largely known for their sketch
comedy, this year’s staff is trying to change
their image. Short films, a political show, and a talk show are just
some of the new show ideas. But it is ROC’s newest show, ROC-TV
jams, that is quickly gaining popularity across the campus. The show,
thought of by Media-Studies student Erik Ulsaker, is a music show that
features local student musicians playing music ‘head’ to ‘head’.
The show is staged over two nights, and the winner has a documentary
done on them including an interview (artists background, influences,
what they write their songs about).
While the staff is excited about the show and the increase in publicity,
they are still unnoticed by the faculty of the university. “Currently,
we do not get any support from the school… I guess they don’t
believe in second chances,” says Executive Producer of ROC, Ana
Mijich. Mijich goes on to say that student media organizations and
the faculty at large have been good to ROC.
The question remains now: With these new shows and new staff, will
ROC receive more recognition from the university and the student population
at large? This will be answered in due time. For now, all members interested
in joining ROC can contact Ana Mijich at amijich@radford.edu
