Center Prepares Students For Life After RU
by Rod O’Neal
RU’s Center For Experential Learning recently hosted its annual Career
Premiere Consortium at the Hotel Roanoke. The event attracted over 800 students
from nine different Virginia colleges and gave them the opportunity to network
with the 70 employers present. The goal of the event was to give students an
early jump on their employment searching after graduation.
“The idea is to network, get some contacts, and focus on getting a foot
in the door,” said Liberty University student Josh Geisler.
The Consortium also gives employers a chance to possibly find a diamond in the
rough. Those that are prepared for the interaction with potential employers have
the greatest chance of standing out in events such as these.
“The first thing is first impression,” said Carlan Meyers, one of
the employers present. “When they speak with us, the fact that they’re
wearing a suit of some kind, and that they look professional. That’s important.”
Luckily, the Center can prepare students for their job hunt. They provide tutorials,
seminars, and other events to help out-going students in connecting with a career.
The Center’s website offers students many resources to also assist in the
next stage of their lives.
