7. Read and orally report on a book which emphasizes any of the Annual Editions: Human Sexuality text topics. Due April 3 50 points
The Surrendered Wife by Laura Doyle
Expectations: The following responsibilities should be met, not necessarily in the order below, or even neatly separated. You have only 10 minutes maximum. You may not read from the book!
Inform: Every professional book critic is expected to provide enough basic information about book's content to enable readers to make their own judgments about whether they wish to read the book. Therefore, do not assume the reader's knowledge about the subject; provide just enough of the book's narrative to inform you audience about the focus of the book. Focus on key elements that connect tot he considerations below.
Restate: Regardless of the topic of you book, the author has a thesis or a purpose he or she is trying to accomplish. Tell us about that.
Relate: Draw out the lessons of the book on issues we have discussed in class.
Judge: How well does the author cover the subject? Do they accomplish the purpose? What did you learn from the book (not so much facts that you didn't now, but more about general issues or concerns involving sexuality). Was the book exciting? Instructive? Why? Would you recommend the book to a friend? Why/Why not?
Females and males may want to read the same book and report on it. For book ideas, check the best seller lists for the last 3 years.
Grading approximately 420 points + final and in-class assignments.
